Pocket Rockets Dilemma.......

Pocket Rockets, American Airlines, whatever you want to call them pocket Aces are the best starting hand you can get pre-flop in NL Texas Holdem Poker, but are they cursed online and should you play them differently?

You are always pleased to see them but a lot of people will say either you win a small pot or you lose a big pot with them.

I'll give you an example that happened to me this week and I was 99% sure when all the money went in it was the end of my tournament:

It's online at Ladbrokes Poker 2.50 euro rebuy turbo 6 seat, 12 left and I am 5th in chips with just over 300k and the blinds have just increased to 10k/20k with 2k ante. It's folded to me on the button and I have AA and raise it to 51516 or something ridiculous like that leaving me exactly 250k behind. The small blind folds and the tournament chip leader is on the BB with 700k and calls, the flop comes 234 with 2 hearts. First to act he jams it allin and after a quick glimpse to check I have the ace of hearts in my AA I reluctantly call allin. He flips over Kh5h and at this point even though I am still slight fave, like I mentioned earlier, I am 99% sure this is the end for me. There is a glimmer of hope as the board pairs 2 on the turn but if course 7h hits the river and I'm gone in 12th.

I see a lot of people online now going allin preflop with AA and KK no matter what the blinds are or what the pot is in the middle, just to reduce the risk of outdraws.

My question is this - should you play them badly to reduce the risk of outdraws or not?

Comments please........

I think people online go all in pre with such a strong hand like AA, KK due to the fact they know a fruity flop is coming so mojority of the time they will get outdrawn. The downside to this all the players know they are shoving with a monster and call just to outdraw them. Im a big advocate of raising pre with a strong and seeing where the hand goes after the flop. The hand u mentioned was abit sick as he has a boatload of outs and as you have the blocker and a wheel draw you have to call, but i know some people who would have folded to the all in to ladder up. Would be interesting to read how other people would play them. Stew
