It's been quite uneventful on the live poker circuit for me the last 4 weeks, so on Wednesday I decided to venture back to Napoleons at Owlerton for the £20 rebuy bingo. This tournament had been running well at the G-Casino Sheffield but recent weeks have seen dwindling numbers and it's integrity has been questioned. The result of this was everyone went to Owlerton and they got 84 runners which meant the tourney made the £10k guarantee. I had no luck during the rebuy period and was into it for £180 after the addon, however my luck changed from this point and I made the final. Unfortunately the blinds were massive at £2k/£4k and with only 49k I shoved from the cut off only to run into KK and was out in 9th for £300. Profit is profit though and obviously the change of venue did the same for my fortune. Hopefully this will see a revival for the comps. at Naps....watch this space....

I've no tipped many horses on here lately and that's mainly been due to the fact that I've had a bad run recently and had lost interest. Today however we shall try and kickstart a good run in the jump season with the following pair:

Dealers Choice is Mental.....Gamble...Gamble...

I made a mistake in last nights tournament that potentially cost me a cash and won't be repeating it ever again. I have JJ on the bb and the blinds are 200/400 and I have 16k ish, utg raises to 1200 and my m8 whom I have a 5% deal with flats, then short stack goes allin for 2500. Now it's on me and I'm thinking I'm gonna flat to see what initial raiser does because at this point he's my only worry. So I flat it and so does he, so now I know my JJ is the best preflop holding, but at this point my m8 shoves his whole stack of 14k and it's back on me. I ask him wtf he is doing and that I am beating him but pass to see him turn TT and the flop come AAJ. Never again will sentiments and morals get in the way of me taking all his chips, Nuff said!!!

I lost my chips after that allin with 99 v TT which sent me to the dealers choice cash table and the amazing hand I will now describe:

This guy has been winning and it's his button and he says 'this is my last hand guys so lets spice it up a bit'. At this point we are down to 7 players as one has gone for a smoke or something, so he chooses 6 card PLO. Before any cards are dealt it goes 4 & 8 blind with me first to call, so holding KhTh5c6c5h7h I make the call as does the rest of the table upto the 8 blind who then spices it up for the 'last hand guy' by raising 50. I can't possibly pass preflop and call the 50 and at this point the 'last hand guy' bottles it and passes saying he would have called for something sensible like £30 - yeah sure! The £50 gets called in 2 more spots and then the next guy repops the pot for like £50 with £250 or more and at this point I know that everyone still in the hand is going to be allin pre, how can you not? Of course everyone does call and it's also obvious that the dumpling re-popper has AAxxxx, which to be fair is a bit stupid in my opinion!!!

So we are allin pre 6-way with not a flop dealt and a £720ish main pot and a £540ish side pot and the flop comes 7 2 7 giving me a set of 7's, the £50 guy on my right at this point is winning with 22 in his hand. The turn comes a ten giving me a bigger full house and at this point the main pot would be all mine. The river comes a K giving me a bigger full house but another guy also has K7 and we chop the main pot and he wins the £540 side pot.

The Ireland Adventure

Before we get there I must mention that I cashed in the £20 rebuy at the G-Casino last Wednesday, but it was only 8th for £200.

So Friday morning I rose at 3am to go and pick Daz up for our flight to Dublin for the Boylepoker IPO 2010, which was being held at the Regency Airport Hotel. The tournament started at 12pm and our flight from EMA was 0635, which we just made after trying to get on one to Spain instead! (I was trying to function on 6hrs sleep since Tuesday night) 45 mins is my kind of flight, take off - quick cuppa - Land! This was my first time in Ireland and although Daz said they were the nicest people in the world, you sort of take it with a pinch of salt, but seriously they are! It started with the taxi driver from the airport to the hotel, who unlike anything you get in England, actually said to give him less money than it said on the meter. If that was Sheffield and you offered him 30p less than the meter, he would lock the doors and take you to the nearest police station. Then the guy on the hotel reception lets us check-in at 8.30am instead of after 2pm so we can get a couple of hours kip before the main event starts.

No one wants to hear about my badbeats so to cut a long story short, I go out of the main event after 2 hrs with AA when the guy rivers a 2-outer and the rest of the weekends poker followed a similar pattern. So in poker terms it was a bad weekend for me, but Ireland was great, the tournament and all the side events were run really well, the Guinness was good and the people are out of this world. My only moan would be about how expensive the food and drink are otherwise I would recommend the weekend to anyone and I will certainly like to go back next year.

First a quick poker catch-up....I played the £50 rebuy Sunday at G-Sheffield only to go out in a 3-way allin pre, my 99 v AK and AJ. I was infront on the 7 high board until the river comes Ks, giving AJ a flush with the Jack of spades. Never mind I managed to win back my buyins and finish £150 up on the night from the dealers choice cash game. I shall be playin the £20 rebuy tonight, which from tonight is now also a £11k gtd with 80 runners, lets hope it makes it and I get back to winning ways. I could do with a nice bankroll to take to Dublin 15-17th October where I will be play the Boylesports IPO 2010 at the Regency Airport Hotel!!!

Of course yesterday was a crossbar 2nd again even though it drfited and ran at 10's. Played the £20 rebuy at G-Sheffield last night and won only one hand in the two hour rebuy period. Went back after the break and after calling a raise on the button with QT suited, the flop comes 8 high with my flush draw. They all check to me so of course short-stacked I shove only to run into a set in the sb. I make my flush on the river but of course it pairs the board and gives him the boat. Out early, both me and Brion went for a lovely curry at the Shapla and then returned to play some dealers choice; this went quite well and I recovered most of my buyins - happy days!

A Journey South...errr and then back north again!!!

I'm back from the big smoke and had a great time, although poker results were a crossbar to be honest. Me and Brion played the £500+£50 2-day event at the Vic on Weds/Thurs and after a very slow start I was just getting back into it and collecting chips, but then went out in two hands. I raise from early with 99 and a short stack goes allin from the button, which I call and run into KK, then same guy raises my bb and I shove with AK and run into QQand I'm out.

Thankfully Brion puts in a better performance and knocks out Bepe' De Marco in 16th place on the bubble, who takes it really gracefully thumping the table and shouting 'ferkin bubble again ffs etc etc.' This puts Brion on 148k with 2.2m in play and 15 left. When the table folds to the sb who raises and Brion sees QQ in his BB, of course he 3-bet shoves and is more than happy when the sb snaps him and shows JJ. This now being a pot for the chip lead he's in great shape to win us some serious wonga, until that is, a ferkin Jacob is the first card on the flop. Brion takes this more gracefully than Greco but we still had to go out and get smashed to shake it off.

We managed to catch a bit of Gus Hansen in the Empire WSOPE Heads Up, while we could still focus that is!!!

Played the £100 rebuy at the G-Casino Sheffield last night, only to go out 18th in a 2-stage death of TT v A5 allin pre and he rivers the Ace, then my K9 allin pre is no match for the chip leaders JQ when two Jacobs hit the board - bollox, however yet again, Brion makes the final and puts 10% in the kitty for our shared big tourney fund.

Not looked at the horses for a week and won't bother today, GET ON is back tomorrow maybe...

After dragging £500+ from Friday's private invite only, dealers choice cash game, I totally owned last nights £50 rebuy at the G-Casino Sheffield. We get to the final table and I'm 3rd in chips and they all want to start talking about deals, but last night I wasn't making any deals. After a quite short heads-up with soft Alan I emerge the victor and £3400 better off......Watch out London here I come........

Recent Form - A Quick count up...

I've just spent a few minutes totting up my recent cashes in poker and I get it to around £9k in winnings since 1st July, obviously there are entry fees to deduct and the odd cash loss but I reckon I'm clearing about £6k profit. Not bad to say I'm only really playing 2-3 nights a week...TOOT TOOT!!!!!

Let's deal with the poker first and Sunday's £50 rebuy was very uneventful but I killed the cash again and left £400+ for the night. Last night was the £20 rebuy again where I won one hand in the 2hr rebuy period and got sets busted all over the place. I finished up being into the comp. for £280 but had a change of fortune in the post rebuy period, making the final and finishing 7th for £380. So after I paid my 10% buddy his £10 and had a steak supper, I left in profit to the tune of £70; not a lot but it could have been much worse.

I played the £20 rebuy at G-Casino Sheffield last night, but after a reasonably steady start my 99 loses to AK allin pre and then it all goes downhill. I don't think I won a hand after that and went on a frantic rebuy stage, which left me £100 lighter and also still with no chips. I then have to fork out another £40 for a rebuy and top-up to still only have £3k after the rebuy period. This could have been tripled after I limped with QT suited in early but this was popped allin and called and so I passed. Of course V 44 & 99 I would have been in good shape with a Q high flop and a set on the river, instead I manage to get it allin behind blind vs blind and don't improve. So with an early tournament exit I move onto £2/£2 dealers choice, which turns out to be a major rollercoaster with me allin with £60 left in my wallet and then leaving with £800+. So in the end it's turned out nice again ant' it Aunt Sally.....yes it has Worzel!!!

Poker Update

After three tournaments spanning a week to 10 days I was finally back to winning ways in the £50 rebuy at G-Casino Sheffield on Sunday night. I managed to scrape to the final table and although I was determined not to do any deals, all the table wanted too and finally succumbed. So as the short stack on the table with eight left I did a deal which gave me better than a 4th place finish.

Crossbar Challenge

Friday's Lucky 15 successfully fell into the category of crossbar challenge as once again what could have been a nice bag of sand ended up a disappointing Lady Godiva. One winner, two seconds and a third.

My final table fever on the poker seems to have ended also, with three complete misses in the last eight days. I have played like a bit of an arse though to be honest making mistakes in the first two and trying to bluff calling stations in the last. I did also get rivered for a £700 pot in 5 card PLO, holing As2sJhQhJd on a flop of JsTs2h. Hitting the flop this hard I wanted to keep a couple of the 6 to flop interested beyond it and led out for £10 into a £24 pot; 4 callers was more than I anticipated but 6c on the turn was probably as safe as it gets. This time I bet £30 into the £64 pot, which gets called in one spot then pot reraised in another for £130 more; folded to me I'm allin for another £130 on top. The £30 caller gets out of the way and reluctantly the re-potter calls with TTQ9x. Still a great spot for me as although he is open-ended the K gives me Broadway, so he's down to three eights (8s gives me the nut flush) and one ten. Of course the dealer goes the the most painful way and stick the case ten on the river. OUCH THAT HURT!!!!!

If I was in the middle of a bad run that might have sent me under, but hey as they say, whoever they are - THATS POKER!!!

There have been no posts for the last few days because I have been away fishing for a few days. It was very relaxing and thoroughly enjoyable with great company and I would like to thank those who attended. Just before I set off for home yesterday, I heard on the radio the sad news of the passing of Alex Higgins. I would just like to say on here as on I already have on Twitter, R.I.P. Alex you will be missed. Alex and Jimmy White were my hero's and inspiration for playing snooker and both great characters in the game.

Disappointing 16th in last nights £50 rebuy at G-Casino Sheffield. You get a 4k starting stack and by the end of the rebuy period I had 50k, but it wasn't to be and I finally went out after reraising allin after a short stack allin A7 off with AQ; only to run into QQ behind. Still it only cost me £56 so at least it was a cheap evening.

I hope you backed the two winners at York on Saturday, turned into a decent day with the double aswell. I don't really fancy anything today but will be having a 1pt win bet on the following just for some interest:

Apologies for the lack of blogs the last few days, I think I have finally got rid of my Trojan Virus, but have also been busy at work. I hope you got the tip on twitter yesterday, an easy 9/2 5pt winner.

After Sunday's poker disappointment I went out Monday night to play the £20 rebuy at the G-Casino Sheffield, to exorcise some demons I guess. Luckily it worked as, even though I just made it down before the end of the late reg. period, I managed a deal with 6 left. The chip leader took £1k, 2nd in chips took £600 and the rest of us bagged £450, which again was a good deal for me being the short stack and 6th only paying £220 on the board.

However, this success was short-lived as I had a shocker on Wednesday in the £20 rebuy at Napoleons in Sheffield. It cost me 10 rebuys and then I lost £200 on the cash, outdrawn at every turn, KK 5 times only won once and that was the blinds.

Thank fuck the football is back on today I had to watch some serious shite on the TV last night. I even got annoyed with Question Time and turned that off to catch up on some kip. Politicians are such a bunch of wankers, Labour are already having a go at the new government over immigration; what about the last 13 years? It's a good job they have non-politicians on the program or there would be no sense or truth spoken at all, it would just be continuous shouts of 'more beer' 'more beer' 'baaa!' 'baaa!'

Finally a cash at Owlerton

I played the £20 rebuy at Napoleons at Owlerton, Sheffield last night and for once all went well. The evening started well with a £150 win on the roulette which gave me a free roll on rebuys, which I seemed to be needing early on as I couldn't hit a flop. However it all turned around when nearly everyone limped on my bb and I checked to see a flop with 72 off. The flop came 973 rainbow and checked to me I bet out, but then it gets reraised allin and 2 more call aswell; with 300 bet and only 800 to call during the rebuy period I know I'm behind but throw it in for VALUE. When the turn comes another 7 I'm allin and the other two both call. The river brings a 2 to fill me up and when the other two check I showdown my monster 72 and scoop the lot.

I never looked back from there and at the end of the rebuys I had 17100 increased to 19100 with the double addon. I never really went down below 15k and peaked at 57500 with only 414,000 chips in play, was never really in danger. It turned into a crapshoot on the final table with the blinds getting to 5k/10k but I shoved when I had to and stayed alive. When we got down to 6 we did a deal with £7280 left in the prizepool, which meant the 4 bigger stacks got 1300 and me and the other short stack took £1k each. A very fair deal for me when 3rd place only paid £990, but everyone knows anything can happen.

A successful evening for once but I was knackered getting back in the house at 5am when I had been up from 5.15am on Wednesday morning for a run, so I took the morning off work to get a couple of hours sleep.

No horses today you will be pleased to know, yesterday was a complete miss and there's nothing that excites me today; so until tomorrow BONJOUR!!!

After all the build up for last nights game it was very poor viewing, Portugal played like they were defending a 1-0 lead not chasing one. As for yesterdays nags, it was looking good when the first two went in, but unfortunately the last two were poor.

I played the £50 rebuy last night at the G-Casino in Sheffield, thinking I could drown my sorrows with a wedge of cold hard cash on the hip. However, it was not to be when, ever popular pro Barry Neville re-shoved my early raise. Of course I snap called with my Kowboys and was delighted to see him flip over the Ladies, it all still looked good on the 9 high flop nut of course the Q hits the turn - That's how I roll baby!!!

No horse tips todays it all looks very dull, but I have had a cheeky 1pt win on Chile to beat Brazil tonight at 11/2. I believe they have a chance if they can keep 11 men on the pitch for long enough and it's a big price in a 2 horse race - COME ON CHILE'

I've had a bet on the football today and I've gone with a pony on the draw in the Brazil v Portugal encounter @ 2/1. My thinking is that Portugal and Brazil will both be content with their places in the next round and won't be risking any injuries, also by finishing 2nd Portugal could well avoid Spain in round 2.

I had quite a good Ascot last week, mainly due to backing the Gold Cup winner @ 20's LOL, a lump on Rainbow Peak as tipped as my (nap) and a nice bet on Treadwell @ 14's. With regards to Treadwell on Friday, it's not often you go through a card at a big meet and only like one horse in a field of 20+ runners, but Treadwell was the only thing I could fancy in that race :o)

I played a £50 rebuy at G-Casino Sheffield last night, which is a comp. they have stolen from Napoleons, but last night they nailed it by guaranteeing at 11k with 45 runners. They needn't have panicked as word got round and 79 runners produced a prize pool of £11,600, to which the casino added another £1k, meaning a 1st place prize of £4k - awesome!!! Unfortunately I went out 25th after being short-stacked and pretty much card dead. I predict however that this tourney will only get bigger and better, as they are guaranteeing it at £11k for the next 8 weeks leading up to the festival in July. Word will get round and I think it may even touch 100 runners next week.

On to today's nags and it's a bit boring as to be expected after Ascot but I like these two at chepstow:

Made a fatal error yesterday at Ascot, I went through all the races and came up with a 1st choice and a 2nd string. I then decided to put my first choices in the pisspot and all my 2nd strings in an amazing multiple. Unfortunately most of my winners were from the 1st choices which were in the pisspot - Doh!

I did however start backing them as singles from Hibaayeb in the 3.05, so I still managed to pull four winners out of six races, which is amazing at a big meeting.

Had I stuck to putting my 1st choices in the multiple, including Right of Passage, the 4-timer alone would have returned 4031/1 - arrrrggghhhhh!!!

Rite of Passage was my big pull of the day, which won @ 20's, I had been raving to my mate about this horse all morning and couldn't understand why no one else liked it. It was one of only a few in the race that had done anything like the 2m4f distance, and had done so in it's previous two races off a weight of 11-12 and 11-7. Yesterday, however it ran at 9-2, it seemed like a no brainer to me.

I played the 3k gtd at Ladjokes this morning and was chip leader with 36 left, only as usual to get crippled when I am massive fave. 6 handed, blinds 4k/8k they all fold to me on the sb with AQ suited. I make it 28k and the bb reraises allin for 100k, I have 150k back and call, he shows JQ off and the flop comes AK8; of course the T on the river is Gallon Tea'd - battled on for a bit but to no avail.

For your information the tips I was posting last year were from a tipping service that I was subscribing to. Unfortunately they had an awful year, which obviously means they are not getting my money again. The only reason I signed up was they were on a +100 pt streak when they sold it to me.

The tips I will be posting from now on will be mine from a new system I am trialing. I have been having some success with a lot of crossbar days on big L15's and I am quietly confident that it is only a matter of time before I stop hitting the woodwork.

A thousand apologies for what is nearly a year since my last post, what a lazy git I am. To be honest I have four kids now and the little one was only one last year, so something had to give and the blog suffered. I can't guarantee on daily posts but I will try my best.
