GUKPT - Leg 9 - Part 2...

......In the bookies, our selection in the first race at wolves rode a perfect sprint and the patent was off to a good start, so we headed round the corner to the pub. The pub meal was 2 for 1 and 2 full plates of cheeseburger, chips and salad for £5.95 was great value and the food was quite nice. With our bellies a little fuller and a couple of pints to the good we headed back around the corner to the bookies to watch our next selection at wolverhampton, which turned out to be a good priced place. With the patent still well alive and a possible seven bags if the 3rd one won we headed back to the casino for the start of the Omaha event I had stupidly bought in for, which I was starting to think was a total waste of £250+25, due to the fact I had never played a live omaha tourney before - doh!

I sat down at the table and low and behold it looked like I was going to have to steal Ian 'the raiser' Frazer's blinds as he was two to my left!

I was too weak for the first few levels but then after calling with a speculative hand to the river, missing my draw but being checked to, I put in a big bluff and stole my first pot. My confidence was now starting to grow, I had worked out who was who on the table and I was making some moves and getting involved. The game had wandered back to the bookies for the last race to see if our patent was gonna make us happy no matter what happened in the tourney. By he time he returned Ian Frazer had managed to raise his way to his rebuy and out of the tournament and unfortunately the final horse had failed, never mind we had still doubled our stake. I had managed to double my starting stack by the end of the rebuy period and wasn't rebuying anyway, I wasn't about to waste another £250 in this field of pro's, especially as Marc 'Mr Cool' Goodwin had just joined our table two to my left and was hitting every flop = Super!!!

As the tournament progressed my stack was getting shorter and Goodwin was like an un-relentless chip gathering machine, he is an awesome player. As for Ian Frazer he was an arrogant arse, like his friend Jeff 'Jaffacake' Kimber, who also went out like a noob. Goodwin had raised yet again and I was holding KK68 double suited and after some deliberation I decided to make a stand with the idea that unless he was holding AA he had to hit. Everyone else passed and Goodwin called and did turn over AAxx and when the flop came J72 it looked like I was heading out. However the lovely dealer dealt me a runner runner 9T, Goodwin was spitting feathers and I had been given a second chance. I pushed on from there and built my stack nicely to a healthy position when the table broke, at which point, down to three tables, I was moved to sit next to Dave 'El Blondie' Colclough.

GUKPT Leg 9 - Blackpool

Part 1...

Last Wednesday I made the journey up to Blackpool to stay with my long standing online matey, the game. We had never met in person before but if he was going to tie me up and dry bugger me then so be it, after all it was free accommodation! The purpose of the visit was the GUKPT was in town and I was looking for a big game of cards and after dumping my bag, a quick chat and a cup of tea, we headed for the casino.

There was a £30 rebuy satellite into the main event starting at 2pm and it had our names all over it. With 88 runners and lots of mad scousers and drunken Jocks the satellite made 10 seats into the main event so with our combined skills we were quietly confident of a main event seat between us. We had agreed before hand that if one of us made it we would have a 70/30 deal on any main event payout. The satellite was self-deal and as nobody was stepping forward on our table I decided to do it. This was not great for me concentrating on my game but with the shit I kept dealing myself it probably saved me numerous rebuys. I eventually went out with KK when I slow played it in early position and on a QJx flop I pushed only to be called by one of the mad scousers, who holding Q2 off, was never in doubt when his 2 hit the turn. I carried on dealing until the table split up but my satellite was over. thegame was fairing much better however and had a decent stack at the break, but it was not to be and he ran into some bad luck.

I did feel rather disappointed that neither of us had grabbed a seat with 10/88 available, but hey thats poker!!!
Feeling a little deflated and wondering what I was gonna do all evening I decided stupidly to get a monkey out of the cash machine and enter the £250+25 Limited Rebuy @ 8pm. Then as we had 2 hours to kill me and thegame decided to go up the road to the pub with the bookies round the corner to get some food and beer and watch the night meeting @ Wolves, for which we'd had a nice little patent on three selections.
