Apologies for the lack of posts, but to be honest, there aren't enough hours in the day and there's nothing much (of any interest) to report. Also the missus's money is now down to purely SMP, so she's spending even more of mine than usual!!!
Not bet on anything since the Dessert Classic Darts.
I went fishing the Thursday before last for the weekend, which I thoroughly enjoyed, but the two youngest kids have been really poorly so not much has happened other than looking after them. The five year old Alfie has had tonsillitis and the five month old baby Gabriel has had some virus, with terrible high temperatures, a rash and the most awful cough. It's always a lot more scary when they are so little, especially as you are limited to what the can take medication wise.
I have played a little on-line poker but to no avail and I really am getting awfully pissed off with it. I am really happy with my play but as has always been lose 9/10 times with the best hand. I managed to get out to play live on Thursday at Napoleons in Sheffield, where numbers have been slowly dwindling over recent months. I was even finding it difficult to motivate myself to go, when my mate Keith the builder, who hasn't been out for weeks due to uncertainty with work slowing down, rang me to say he was going and my mojo was re-perked.(It gets highly tedious going on your own every week and listening to your own bad beat stories on the way back in the wee hours)
Due to the lack of numbers over recent months we are in no rush to get there and also they have recently altered the format so new players can join in the first hour, with a total of 2 hours of rebuys. So we arrive at 9.30ish expecting no problems in getting in when the £10+1 NLHR only started at 9.10ish. How wrong we were, miraculously the room was nearly full with 86 runners already and no spare seats. With a reserve list of 8 we managed to talk the card room manager into putting another table with one of us offering to deal it, as they only had 7 dealers and one table was already self-dealing.
The tourney was fairly uneventful for me with only 1 rebuy and an addon, I went out not long after the blinds had gone 200/400 with a stack of 4200 when dealt 88 I shoved from early to mid and was duly battered by QQ one seat to my left. Keith was fairing much better and after kicking about winning £80 on roulette and £50 on the 3-card poker, I noticed a NLH cash game was starting so went to play that. They were playing £1\£2 with a minimum £50 sit down and the action was crazy with live blind straddle's nearly every hand. Some baby faced assassin sat down with just over 50 notes, who looked no older than 15 (I must be getting old) and made £800+ in 2 hands. The 1st he had AJ on a J high flop and wasn't at all worried when 4 people called his £50 reraise on the flop and his allin on the turn and it stood up. very next hand he rode his rush and managed to get a 4 way allin this time for £200+ and duly rivered his nut flush; and proceeded to tip the dealer (which is custom as it's not a house dealer) only £2!!! Obviously no-one commented (HA HA!)
Keith managed to fight all the way to bubble 11th for £60 at 4.20am (LOL!), in which time I managed to sneak under the radar with all the fuss over the young kid and turn my £50 into £570 an amazing nights work, can't wait to do it again, they were mostly total loons, asian guys with too much cash chasing any flush all the way to the river for £100+
It was the best cash session I've had since an £800 win the vic when I went with Richard (RickyZ) Robinson when he was playing the British open years ago.
Lets hope it's the start of a nice run on poker, it's not before time!!!

Don't Gamble Sensilbly and Concentrate....
Just a quick update....DTD last Thursday was a waste of time. I was out of the comp. at 10.20pm after getting short I move allin from mid position when folded to me with A3 suited and the bb who has only slightly more chips than me decides to risk his tournament with JT, of course he hits. So I move to the £1/£2 cash table for 30 mins before the super satellite for the £750 main event on July 19th starts at 11pm. Action on the cash table was mental....someone raises to £13 preflop and some gimp student, who needs some daylight on his overpale complexion, reraises from the sb to £38 and 2 people call one of them allin. The flop comes Q53 rainbow and to a check the gimp puts the other guy to an allin decision for £75, which he duly calls. The turn is a 2 and the gimp declares he has a pair, then the river pairs the board with a 5 and gimp boy takes down the £270 pot with his 24 offsuit. (wtf is that all about?) I was praying for a situation I could get involved in but it didnt happen and I left the table evens to play the super satellite.
The super satellite was a £10 rebuy and DTD guaranteed one seat with 20 runners. I decided before it started I was gonna chuck 50 notes at it and no more. Of course it was just like bingo and my 1st 4 allins with the best hand were duly outdrawn, the worst being my JJ screwed by 52 off when the board comes with 222 on - LOL! (I think I need to review how often I play 24 and 52 off) On my last rebuy I managed to win a 4-way allin with AQ and I was off and running. Anyway it culminated in me raising with A7 off in mid with 7 left on the final table picking on the short stack and having to call his allin raise due to pot commitment issues. He turns 88 and I miss which leaves me with 5.5k and blinds at 600/1200 with a running ante of 100. The very next hand they all fold to me again and this time I push with A6 off and the same guy, this time in the sb, shoves again and when they are turned over I'm facing 77, miss again and I'm out - LOL! - So I went home!!!
Went to Napoleons in Sheffield last night as I decided with fuel costs as they are I can't justify Notts. every week. It also allows me to set off a lot later, like 8.45 to play the 9.10 tourney, which is great. The tournament is NL Holdem with £30+3 entry and £20 rebuys. The crowds are dwindling as with everywhere you go as people are feeling the pinch of all these rising living costs, but 27 runners was totally piss poor. Now we come to the concentration part of the title of this blog, when half an hour in I call someone's allin on the flop with a flush draw, however it was a rainbow flop - Doh! Of course I knew it was coming runner runner flush and you have to be confident when your money is in!!! - Ha Ha! They decide they are only having an hour of rebuys instead of two due to the number of runners and so we break and I take the double addon for £20 which takes me to a decent average stack.
Now about not gambling sensibly! During the 5 min break I sit have a spin on the roulette and when I hit I always double the bet, as I find with roulette you have to play the rush (as with most things). So when it's hit me twice my third bet is all my 72 x 50p chips going on my numbers, but as I've just got them all on they call on the tannoy for all poker players to return to the card room. As I'm up £16 anyway I decide to Gamble Sensibly and cash them in, only to see the next spin hit 22 where I've just removed 8 chips and also had some on that block of 4 and half split with next door for another 4. I think being sensible cost me around 200 notes - Double Doh!
Back to the poker comp. and my concentration was totally gone as I called someone all the way with my pocket 5's not noticing he had hit his flush on the turn. I then flat called utg with AK with a view to reraising but to no avail. When the flop comes K95 rainbow and I still think I'm in good shape and my 500 bet is only called in one spot just to my left. When the turn comes rag 2 I push and I'm quickly called by K9 who fills up on the river! - Taxi for Cullumbine and goodnight!!!
Another bad day at Black Rock......
